Exploring the Future of Layer 1 Blockchains: The Quest for the Next Solana
The blockchain landscape is constantly evolving, with new Layer 1 solutions emerging with the ambition to outpace current leaders like Solana. In a recent analysis, the focus was on identifying whether any of these contenders could replicate Solana's success or if they're destined to join the long list of "Ethereum killers" that never quite made it.

Speed and Efficiency: The New Benchmarks
Transactions Per Second (TPS): One of the primary metrics for blockchain efficiency is how many transactions it can process per second. High TPS is crucial for scaling and handling real-world applications. Block Times: This metric indicates how quickly transactions are batched and confirmed, affecting the overall responsiveness of the network. Time to Finality: The time taken for transactions to become irreversible is vital for user confidence and application reliability.

The EVM Compatibility Debate

Custom Solutions: Sui, for example, uses the Walrus protocol for scalability, moving away from traditional storage solutions. Dedicated Hardware: Both Sui and Solana are exploring dedicated gaming hardware to leverage Web3 games, enhancing user engagement through native support.

Cross-Chain Interoperability
With solutions like DeBridge, LayerZero, and Wormhole, the divide between EVM and non-EVM chains is diminishing. Users now experience a more seamless interaction across different blockchains, which might reduce the importance of EVM compatibility from an end-user perspective.
